Portfolio vs brand for investment positions
so I accepted an offer at a regional shop in Europe in which I'd do some macro driven asset allocation on multiple asset classes as well as some quantitative implementation of the same. the place is not very known but the founders/partners are formidable players in the regional market of reference and there would a ton to learn from them. I am growing accustomed to managing a full equity portfolio of €10k in size with great results both on relative and absolute terms. my target would be to get a buy side role in equity research (or multi asset as second best) but I realize brand perception is poor.
so, in order to get to the door, what do you think could be the value of a privately managed portfolio? I mean, I know it boots my CV, but to which degree? example: does a candidate with a more fitting profile (say SS ER from a BB bank) completely obliterate me or do I get a chance with a portfolio that is well run at getting the first round? Does size matter more than significant performance?
thank you all for the advice!
