Portfolio/Hedge Fund Manager Career plans at 22

Hello,

I'm John and I'm a senior graduating with a BBA in Finance & Business Management. My career plan is to become a portfolio or hedgefund manager managing my own fund by around 40-45 years of age. But I plan to get my Series 7 next summer to learn about the market. After graduation at 22 in Dec 2013 I plan to start my CFA® licensing tests and work/internships maybe at the same time. Then I plan to apply to UT - Austin's MBA in Investment Management program around 26/27 years of age. After MBA find a solid job as an analyst, then work through the ranks and all the dirty stuff and help start managing a portfolio. Use all that experience I have gained and hopefully start my own fund and maybe retire around 65 or a little earlier.

These are my plans. I would really appreciate all the opinions, feedback, and constructive criticism.

Thanks,
John

Agree with blackjack above -- life doesn't usually go according to plan. I would say to remain flexible and find what you really love to do. These plans are great goals, but achieving them is predicated on a ton of hard work that will only really be sustainable if you really like what you're doing everyday. You'll definitely see the world differently at 25 than you will at 22, and do your best to keep an open mind career-wise. Best wishes as you start the career, and just be patient with the process.
