Possible transfer
I just finished my first year at a non-target (MSU) with a 4.0 GPA. I was not interested in investment banking until this summer, so I didn't have a reason to transfer until now. I'm debating on possibly transferring to UoM, but I can't apply for their B-school until next year. Would it even be worth transferring (after my sophomore year) if I didn't get accepted directly into their business college? Do you think that it would be worth entering their UoM's LSNA college over MSU's business college?
My thought is that some of my credits wouldn't transfer and I may be set back another year. However I feel that this transfer might help me land an investment banking opportunity that otherwise might have been out of reach..
Thanks for any advice/guidance you can provide
FMI @ MSU.
Figure it out.
You should really call someone in both general admissions and Ross admissions at U of M to discuss which will be an easier path to ultimately end up at Ross. I have no idea how U of M works as I didn't go there, but from my experience at another school the b-school and general admissions people aren't always on the same page. Either way, if you want to do banking, don't stay at MSU.
The financial markets institute at MSU is a good program for students wanting to end up on wall street. Also, check out linkedin, MSU has a ton of alumni on the street. The fmi is basically a networking program that brings together the alumni and students(makes up for the lack of campus recruiting). I grew up in Michigan and considered both schools as possible choices. One thing I considered was not so much the strength of the school prestige wise but what I personally could get out of the school. If you're a rockstar at MSU you'll land BB offers, but if you're only average at UofM will you? Something to consider.
