Given the fact that there are a lot more Pre-MBA Associates than VPs, how much more difficult does it become to get into PE after MBA with a good PE background? As well, what is the lifestyle like at the VP-level?

The answer to this, as with most things related to PE firms, is "it depends". At a post-mba associate/VP level, hiring is strictly need/opening-based. Firms rarely have incoming 'classes' of post-MBAs. Additionally, not all pre-mba PE experiences are created equal. As hearsay from some friends who are currently in b-school (and have good PE experience), I've heard everything on the spectrum of "offers anywhere" to "no one is hiring".
