Post MBA Career Choices - Is it even worth putting in all the effort?
Looking for some advice/ suggestion/ direction from the wise folks on this forum about getting an MBA and post-MBA career choices.
Currently an engineer at a top 3 aviation firm. Even though I'm ok with what I'm doing now, everyday I'm realizing engineering isn't where my passion lies. Rather than getting really excited about the technical aspect of my job, my eyes light up when I hear the business and strategy teams talk about financial perspective of the company. Talking to one of my mentors the idea of getting an MBA came up, but I'm not really sure how helpful an MBA can be be for me. I looked into the MBA application process and it looks like I'll have to put in a lot of resources and effort to get through the entire process. So just trying to do some due diligence to see if all those efforts are really gonna be worth the investment and I think it starts with finding out what my post-MBA career options are.
I don't think I'm interested in IB or marketing. PE, VC, or Asset Management most likely won't work out for me since I didn't start in finance right out of school. Consulting is an option, but I would like to know what other VIABLE career options I can look at post-MBA despite my non-business background.
Try looking at general management programs. Those will get you in a real company, and typically track to running a division/business unit eventually, if you perform. You could also look at Corp. Dev., FP&A, tech, startups, CPG marketing... There is literally a TON of stuff people do outside IB/consulting. I'd just check the employer report for your target schools to get an idea of what else people do.
