POSTGRAD OPPORTUNITIES CHOICE !!! OFFERS EXPIRE NEXT WEEK !!

Dear All,

I'm a long-time lecturer and first time author. I'll try to go straight to the point and organize my ideas.

I'm From Paris and just got My Master degree From a good Business School (Top 10) but let's assume for good job i'm from Non-target. I was an apprentice at Bnp Paribas Corporate Banking (not the IBD division) as a coverage analyst for Mid-Cap firms during my Master degree.

I know that I need to spend some time outside of France to make my Resume more "international" and gain some good experiences then return to Paris/Geneva/London... well in Europe.

**This is the two opportunities and conditions:
- SocGen Investment Banking Analyst coverage (international placement) / / FRANKFURT

Well the experience is very good, I will work a lot, but really i don't like the city (sorry for German people) there is nothing to do, the food etc ... I will have to force myself to go. and I don’t speak a word in german, the compensation for this 1 year will not allowing me to save money.

  • Accenture Management Consulting (Not Strategy), Financials services (Capital market, bank, AM etc... as they define it) / / DUBAI

I would love to move to Dubai in term of Networking (I speak Arabic) I can find Emiratis that doesn’t know what to do with their money / lifestyle / weather / Food and save money as the compensation is attractive. it seems however that MC at Accenture is like implementation stuff and we learn nothing, also will it trouble my resume once I come back ? would I be able to easily find another job also in finance (Client facing/sales/ analyst etc…), F500 or consulting?

**Backgrounds:
- Intern Auditor BIG4
- Founded a start-up (2 years)
- BNP (2 years)

**Target:
I would like to Work for 10-15 years and invest during this period into (business/ Real estate/ Shop). After what, i want to run my business (even with a salary cut).

Like a lot of young people, i don't figure out what i want exactly, however i already know what i don't and let's face it i don't have the resume and background for BB or MBB .

I don’t see myself working from 9 AM to 12PM (think M&A etc…) and traveling will be fun, but it will decrease my health and motivation on the long run and don't want to do that at term.
Salary in Paris is really not i've seen on WSO. People start in Coverage IBD at 45K and the salary will not increase each year for example. For consulting they start at 42K.

**In term of future Salary, Exit ops, Resume construction. I really don’t know which job should I get???

Thank you so much for reading and any help will be welcome.

Regards,

Firstly, who said you won't learn anything from implementation? The main Q here is if you want IB or MC. Both options place you decently in either field so picking the right field is your first problem. Both firms have decent names so exit opps won't be horrible. Both cities can suck or be awesome so if this is your only chance at FT employment, take one offer (based on the 1st Q you have to answer) and suck it up for 12-18 months.

Thank you, based on all the WSO topic that talk about Accenture MC FS, it seems that they complain about their experience being too much IT and Skill less. Regarding the choice about IB or MC well let's say that each of them have good and bad specs. I would tend to go for the job that pay more and have relative good work/life balance and exit ops. I really like the idea for going to dubai but i'm afraid about the trouble that it will bring to my resume. well i'm lost in resume.

Take the job in Frankfurt, you will not fit in if you accept the offer in Dubai. They will view you as a outsider and that’s it where as although the Germans generally cold people they will eventually warm to you and it will help you in the long run. The potential to learn some German will definitely help in the future as well, plus it’s IB. IB experience will help you in your banking career.

Dubai is a Arabic / Islamic nation, the community of business people that grew up there is a tightly knit one and isn’t the most open to outsiders. Chances are if you go there you’ll just be viewed as the expat employee that will be there for a year or two and nothing more.

IMO you should forget about Frankfurt if you don't speak a word of German + i heard some not-so-great things bout banking culture there, and the city will definitely be not as fun as Paris. I would suggest you go to Dubai, try it for a year and if you don't like it apply for other jobs, it will be much easier with one year of experience.

As much as I love the WSO community, it is extremely US-focused and recruiting is much less structured in Europe (especially in France). People do not apply for summer internship a year in advance to get a job the next year, then stay for 2yrs before going PE-MBA route, etc. In Europe job market is a bit tough and you will have much more value with an extra year of work experience on your resume (Accenture is a great brand name tbh).
