Postponing BB IBD start-date (full-time)

Completed a summer internship in 2011 and received an offer of employment. Contract for joining (BB in IBD) for full-time states august as starting date. However, if unable to graduate in time, are banks open to postponing the starting date to January? I know some interns from my class started in January 2012. However, I very much doubt it would be possible for someone set to start full-time in August 2012 to postpone the starting date to January 2013 (when having completed the internship in 2011). Nevertheless, thought I'd pose the question: What do you do when you know beforehand you won't be able to graduate in time for when your full-time employment starts? Is there any way in which to negotiate your way out of this? Do you miss out on your offer of employment due to this?

Odds are you are fucked. Why are you not able to graduate on time? Maybe if there is a legitimate reason (as in you not being a fucking dumbass) they MIGHT be able to do something but even then I still doubt it.

Under my tutelage, you will grow from boys to men. From men into gladiators. And from gladiators into SWANSONS.

Talk to HR, and also your past group managers if that is where you are placed. Take summer classes if not, maybe they bring you on as another SA gig this summer and you have to do the whole thing all over again to get a FT offer.

If you have some courses to finish then simply finish them in the first summer session. Take all of them in the first session and if your school has a limit on courses then just tell them to make an exception. I know quite a few people who graduate in May or June and then complete any left over courses in the first summer session. Work with your school on this. Go to the effin dean of your school if you have to and tell them about your offer and how you must finish your courses before August. You have an offer from a BB dont do anything stupid that will ruin your chances.

Why don't you just take on one extra class during the semester? It won't kill yiou.

I have 4 major classes left and each has prerequisite, so I must spend 3 semesters to have all of them done. I have planned to take one this summer. But it's said I will work over 40 hrs/week at GS, which makes taking summer class impossible.

Did they give you their logic?

Most interviewers didn't care that I was finishing school and many were impressed I was able to finish early and have good internship experience during my semesters.

The OP's issue is a little more severe, as most places require that you start in July (by which time he will not have graduated yet). The only insight I can offer for his situation is to look at big 4 accounting. CPA rules were recently changed so all incoming accountants need to take additional courses, so I know most big 4 has pushed back their start dates.

Are you kidding? IBD SA -> Big 4. Worst. Downgrade. Ever.
