PowerPoint Sample for Application

A small boutique investment bank in my area is requesting that I submit a power point sample along with my resume and cover letter for application purposes. What exactly are they expecting? Should I make up something new to serve as this sample or just clean up something that I have presented in another class. Also is it important that it be finance related? Any particular pp skills I should be showing off?

Thanks,

Pro Tip: Animate everything. Nothing speaks "professionalism" like animations!

They want to see two things: you are capable of producing slides that require minimal post-editing, and you can coherently present your ideas.

Take one of the stock/ investment pitches, that shows you can work with graphs and above-average editing. Make sure your styling is consistent and editing is clean. On the "story" side of things, I want to see 6-7 slides that tell a story without you speaking. Short, informative, easy to follow.

From my experience, 90% of interns and analysts don't give a shit about editing. Show that you give a shit, and you're solid!

I agree with what Jew-ish said. Some additional tips I'd give would be to use the slide master for editing certain aspects, make your charts semi-complicated with grouped objects, stacked bars etc., and maybe make a slide including competitors (use logointern!). Here's a sample pitchbook that could be useful:

It's a PPT sample, not a stock pitch. You can make a PPT of anything, just make sure it contains most of the commonly-used elements.

If you want a pitch, there are a couple of articles on an interview pitch.

Pick a company/ industry that interests YOU. Show your deep understanding of the business model, the market and Porter's 5 forces. Don't pitch anything big, popular, or recently in the news, unless you're prepared to defend your position.
