I'm a summer analyst working on a PowerPoint presentation for my middle market IB/PE firm focused on investment opportunities and strategies in the private education sector in India.
I have a pretty flexible timeframe to complete this presentation, but I'm wondering how quickly an analyst at a US BB firm would be expected to finish a similar 30 or so slide presentation.

It depends on what the presentation is for, how much is already done, how much is numbers / models vs. graphics / text, and whether or not it's an internal presentation or for clients / potential investors.
In general, deadlines in banking are short if it's something for a client - you might have a week to create a first draft, but you're not working on just that... that's on top of all the other work you have, and assuming you also meet with others on your team to get input etc.
With any type of presentation in banking, 90% of your time is taken up with tasks outside the actual PowerPoint slides - like research, building the model or valuation in the first place, etc. and that's what really soaks up time. Often you can just throw the presentation together, have it look quite bad, and just tell the graphics people to fix it so you don't have to bother with much formatting yourself.
If it's a presentation where you've already done the first draft and are just doing "turns" (revisions) you won't have as much time - maybe a few hours to possibly a day if the goal is to send the revised version to your client by the morning.
So that's too general of a question to give a very specific answer. But usually first drafts may take a week or more depending on what you're including, revisions may take a max of a day, and "internal" presentations are not that important / urgent unless it's for an MD meeting with a specific deadline, so timing is more lax on those.
Yeah, my presentation will likely be internal for the time being. It doesn't have a client deadline attached to it.
I'm definitely feeling the 90/10 split with regard to my time spent doing research and my time spent actually typing things in PowerPoint. Unfortunately, I'm doing this solo and just getting feedback from my VP. I also started from scratch and have no design team at my arsenal.
Our firm's internal presentations typically have a 50/50 split between numbers/models and graphics/text. Our pitches probably lean 75/25.
I've spent about two and a half weeks on this thing so far, and I'm hoping to finish this tomorrow. The reason I asked is because I'd like to know whether I need to work more quickly at a BB type firm.
Regardless, it seems difficult to make a comparison between uncommon work at an internationally-based MM and a US BB given the vast differences in size and staffing.
