Preparing for HF Industry

I'm a second semester freshman at an HYP majoring in pure math. I've heard of people in years above me securing HF jobs directly after graduating. While I know this is far from the norm, I'd like to at least attempt to position myself for similar opportunities.

I know enough to get positive returns on my personal portfolio - which isn't saying much - but I lack all knowledge on risk mitigation, proper hedging, advanced fundamental analysis, formulating a thorough investment thesis, etc. Simply put, I can watch Bloomberg and understand most of the stuff, but when it gets to the higher level concepts and guest start talking about strategies and whatnot,  I struggle to "connect all the dots" if that makes sense.

I've looked into the common summer analyst programs at gs, ms, etc and some less high-profile opportunities for this summer, but I'd like to front-load some of the learning asap. Do any of you have tips on what resources are good starting place to grasp higher level concepts?
