Preparing for McKinsey Office Visit

So I got an offer from a McKinsey recruiter to visit one of their offices via networking this summer. I'm a rising Junior at a target school and next semester is when campus recruiting for internships actually starts, but I'm trying to get a leg ahead. I will be meeting for a "super day" and then meeting with an Associate and a BA for 30 minutes each. This is not an interview, however I know that I am being judged and want to make the best possible impression.

What are some tips for how to make the most out of this opportunity? I am happy to elaborate and any advice is appreciated.

Best Response

Your goal should not to get a "leg ahead". At best, they'll tell the recruiter they liked you. At worst, they'll tell the recruiter they didn't. Your goal should be to have an insightful discussion about yours and their career choices and McK. If you're lucky, you'll make a good enough impression that they'll be ok chatting with you again down the line

That said: 1) Don't be weird. 2) Have stuff to talk about and share other than McK and consulting. They likely struggle to not talk and think about work all the time - show that you also value balance in life 3) Show you can guide a conversation. Don't just sit down and expect them to talk for 30 minutes 4) Show you can actively listen. Don't just have a list of questions and rattle them off one after the other without really listening to their answers and reacting to them 5) Send a thank you note to the recruiter, BA, and Associate
