Private Equity- In-house operations/ managment of portfolio companies track?
Hi to all,
I understand that PE firms are also keen on creating value during the time of holding a portfolio company. Most likely by hiring in-house team with members with solid experiences in the industry of the subject portfolio company.
I am an experienced professional working in a specialized industry and I was wondering is there a possibility to enter the Private Equity world by being hired as an In-house Operations team member? My questions are as follows:
1- What compensation range and structure (i.e. base salary, bonus, carry?) should a 15-yrs experienced professional expect to get in a PE firm in the UK? let us say the PE firm is managing funds of $10bn?
2- Does the Operations career track less fortunate than the Finance/deal career track in PE firms when it come to promotions and climbing the career ladder?
3- What would be usually the job title/ job scope offered to an industry specialist like myself in a PE firm?
I would really appreciate your help ?
Why wouldn't you just become a senior exec at a PE-backed company? Unless your experience is broadly applicable or a fund has a really narrow industry focus, you're not suited for an operating partner role. As an aside, the operating partner role is certainly not the only way to improve operations during a PE hold, getting a more capable management team is often way ahead of what operating partners bring to the table.
