Private Equity Investor Relations/Business Development
Was wondering if anyone had thoughts on starting a career in IR/Biz Dev at a reputable PE shop (15B+ in AUM) that takes IR seriously (decent sized team, majority were actually analysts at BBs beforehand). This would essentially be fundraising/maintaining relationships with LPs.
I'm currently a senior at a semi-target with MM banking internship experience (decided not to return) and have a final round interview coming up. I think it could be an interesting job because you get to learn about the deals the firm is doing on a superficial level while gaining a better understanding of the institutional investor landscape.
The questions I have are mainly the obvious ones:
-
Compensation: What does compensation look like, especially relative to the investment team? I imagine the top IR guys are partners/have some carry, but what would an analyst be making in $ terms and what does compensation progression look like?
-
Promotion/Exit Opps: I imagine starting out in IR/Biz Dev puts you on a completely different track from starting on the investment team, but would there be any opportunity to move into an investment role (before or after an MBA)? Is the brand name worth it if it's not an investment role?
Would appreciate if anyone had any insight.
Hi yituraxi, no, I never sleep and so I can respond to any lonely threads (like this one) at all hours of the night. Impressive, I know ;-)
I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.
