Yeah fuck them! Make our congressional delegations fly commercial when representing the US on state visits! I'm a fucking idiot getting riled up over something insignificant!
If you're going to run the country into the ground with 3rd-world fiscal policy that would land the IMF on your doorstep if you were any other country but the U.S., you're goddamned right their asses should be flying coach.
The WSO Guide to Understanding TARP
Yes, let's vary our mode of congressional transport based on the economic opinions of some people. I've got a better idea - let's issue them time share hours to the current value of the S&P. Or how about linking their pay to the consumer confidence index? Or giving them conditional health insurance as long as the Big Mac index is no less than 1 standard deviation from it's 100 day moving average.
Well, I'm not necessarily mad or annoyed at the fact that Congress is getting private aircraft for travel related to their jobs. However, I think the number of jets they are requesting (in addition to their already sizable fleet) is excessive. The kinds of jets they are requesting, two more 737's than the Pentagon had originally requested (not inexpensive planes), and two more G-V's than were requested - is excessive. In addition to that, the secondary jet market at this point in time is phenomenal for buyers. Just two years ago, a used G-IV sold for more than sticker because of waitlists at Gulfstream. Now, G-IV's are being sold for 20 million less. Do our Congressmen really need to be flying on brand new G-V's (which may seat 1 or 2 more people per flight - and I doubt they are cramming 13 people, which is the max capacity of a G-IV on any given flight)? I think there may have been a need for additional aircraft, but certainly not to the tune of over half a billion dollars, especially now, that's all.
