Profile Evaluation MSc Finance UK
I am looking forward to applying at MSc in Finance programs in the UK. I am not sure what I can reasonably expect. I do know that with my profile, I don’t have a chance at Oxbridge, LSE, LBS but I am interested which other UK programs I could get in. My goal is to get a job in M&A in London. The main issue with my profile is very low grades.
Profile
-
2:2 equivalent from the University of St. Gallen (HSG), B.Sc. Business
-
Took online mock GMAT tests and scored 660/800. With preparation, I think I can score around 700.
-
Two Big4 internships (both Finance), two internships at European IB, one in MM PE
-
Plenty of EC activities with references
-
TOEFL score of 119/120 (if that matters)
Universities
Of course, I would like to pursue a program on par with St. Gallen. Due to the grades, however, this is out of reach. The universities I am currently looking at are those which don’t indicate a certain grade on their website.
UK: City (Finance), Durham (Finance)
Non-UK: ESCP, EDHEC, ESSEC, IE, ESADE, Nova, WHU, Frankfurt School
Is it reasonable to apply to all of them? Which ones should I add to the list?
Hey Tier1Capitalist, I think you deserve a response...heck, everyone does. We're listening, sorry about the delay ...my best guess at places on WSO that could help:
You're welcome.
City and Durham should be fine. Watch out for some of the non-UK ones mentioned (such as IE) as they can be just as hard as St. Gallen to get into and that would be a wasted application. Most business schools show their current or former class profiles so check those out. I would also look into perhaps UCD Smurfit in Dublin (it doesn't place too horribly in London) or Edinburgh. Be sure to check the proper grade requirements on each uni's website as almost all list international requirements (including Swiss ones) - you may be penalizing yourself without knowing it thinking your grade is a 2:2. A 2:2 won't land you anywhere that can get you into London IB unless you combined it with a 700+ GMAT

I would be careful w/ Durham, it's a semi-target for undergrad. At the grad level, it's even less of a semi-target and heavily relies on Asian students paying full fair who go back home after. I'd add the below:
UK: Edinburgh
Ireland: Smurfit
Benelux: RSM
In my opinion, the three above (as well as City) are great bets for a UK banking job after.
I won't apply to all your names, some should be removed as they are more of a reach (IE and maybe ESSEC) and the ones that don't place as well to the UK (WHU, Frankfurt School).
Good luck!
