Proskauer Rose LLP
Has anyone ever heard of this firm before? I know its a law firm, but I have a final round interview them for a finance position.
How prestigious are they? Is it possible to start out there and transition to an IB?
The position title is corporate finance Strategy Junior Analyst. The job description is below
The junior analyst will support the corporate finance practice, which is one of the fastest growing practice groups at Proskauer and in the market. The position is for a newly developed role within the organization and will be pioneering new methodologies and best practices for future analysts. The junior analyst will support the senior analyst in conducting market research for business origination efforts. Such efforts include identifying potential IPO targets, tracking refinancing opportunities, identifying key executives, and cross referencing mutual contacts. The junior analyst will also have the opportunity to assist in the negotiation process for capital markets deals. The position reports to the Capital Markets Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Create and maintain lists of potential contacts for deal sourcing and business origination
- Coordinate meetings with head partners
- Produce and distribute marketing and meeting materials
- Leverage public and non-public sources to identify key executives
- Maintain and use Proskauer’s proprietary databases of high-yield deals and IPOs to provide value added client services
- Work on ad hoc and special projects requested by senior management
Not a banker, but in front office finance. Proskauer is a 'new' white shoe law firm. Solid reputation, some really good practice groups. As for getting into IBD, usually ppl from law firms would be corporate lawyers who have solid experience in running a deal and knowing the various legal issues. Doesn't sound like you'll be getting that experience so it might be a bit of a tough sell on your part.
Breaking into IB from any non-M&A corpfin position at any company is going to be a tough sell without a top MBA. That said, this description is weird and it's definitely not a standard internal accounting/finance function. It almost seems like it's corpstrat-type work.
I honestly have no idea about this, I'm going to tag some people to see if they know...
@"Nefarious-" @"Going Concern" @"TheGrind" @"Dingdong08"
Random group, hopefully one of them has an idea
Honestly, weird description and something only lawyers could draft (no offense to lawyers, but kind of). It sounds a bit like biz dev but it's not clear and biz dev for legal services would be odd of you're not an attorney. I have no idea if PR is trying to start up a non-legal corporate finance/m&a practice but I know one of the law firms we use, DLA, started to explore being bankers to a degree but the problem was they wanted to charge discounted hourly legal fees and take a success fee.
I'd check out the interview and see what they say.

Has anyone on here heard of the law firm Proskauer Rose?
Huge law firm. Big in M & A, real estate, sports.
They're kind of a big deal in Big Law
But nowhere as big a deal as Skadden, Sullivan, Cravath and Wachtell. The other V5 (or ex-V5), LaTTTham, is evil reincarnated.
They share an office with MS flagship
I'm only a junior but I know some people that work there. If you have any questions feel free to PM me and I'll answer/find answers as best I can.
Yes, I interviewed there when I was in law school, but ended up going to another firm. What in particular do you want to know?
Huge firm, big name, well respected. Lot of M&A action. Not the best, but one of them. What's your question?
I heard it's mostly Jews at that firm, is that true?
