Prospect for G10 Short Macro / STIR trading desk

Hi!

I’m asking for a friend who is looking to go into this particular trading desk. How’s the prospect going forward in terms of comps and whether it’s a desk that you see growing / downsizing?

Can you share a picture of how’s latest comps looking from analyst, associate, and VP levels (so I guess up to 6 years of experience) for this particular desk?

How are the BBs ranked for this particular desk?

Thanks

STIR trading not going away...but trading is not a career where you work hard and get automatically rewarded...there is a large degree of luck vs skill...and also natural ability....which you only discover after working in the job for a few years.

its a great opportunity...lots of good STIR traders go on to hedge funds....but the bad STIR traders get fired and have to find something else to do...with pretty much no career experience to lean on. There is no equivalent to trading outside of trading...so if you fail, you will have to start over at the bottom. However, if you succeed, the financial reward can be huge.

Big career risk..potential big reward...potential unemployment.

what kind of risk taker are you?

Silly to think in terms of expected pnl and “comps” in 2019 this definitely isn’t a career where where you can predict what your pay will be in 10 years, much less 3 years. If your friend is passionate about trading and see it as the only job they want to do, and dedicate themselves to it, they can be successful but it’s rxtremely hard and a lot of work. If your friend is just trying to think “where can i make the most money, and by age 30 I’ll be making X” it’s the wrong mindset
