Prospective College List

I'm currently a high school senior very interested in working in finance after graduating from college. I realize I'm only in high school and it very possible I might change my mind once I'm in college, but right now I am fairly certain this is what I want to do.

Here is the list of schools that I am planning on applying:

University of Pennsylvania-Wharton
University of Virginia
NYU-Stern
University of Michigan-Ross
Cornell
University of Chicago
UC Berkley-Hass
Duke

With the exception of Wharton with is certaintly a reach, my college admissions counsuler, who has decades of experiences and has a repution for perdicting admission fairly consistently, thinks I have a solid shot at getting into all of those schools.

My question for you guys is what are some other schools that are of a similar caliber to the schools that I have a decent shot of being accepted into have a solid reputation on Wall street, and heavily recurited by New York investment banks, private equity firms, hedge funds, ect

Thanks in advance for any replies

If Wharton is a reach for him, Stanford is definitely a reach.

Do NOT replace UCB-Haas with Stanford. Stanford is a great school with great programs, but that is terrible advice.

If you really want to go to Stanford, apply there ALONG WITH Berkeley, as you are much more likely to be accepted at Berkeley.

Well, the schools that are relatively heavily recruited: Ivy League. Those you listed have a decent chance too. But below that, it really depends on you and not the school anymore...

Okay call me crazy but saying you are going to get into "or have a solid shot" at schools like Haas, Chicago, and Duke and Penn is a reach makes no sense. They are either all solid or all reaches. Though Wharton admission is harder the disparity is not that great.

For example, when I applied to MIT I also applied to Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. I considered them all equal and got into all of them. While a friend applied to the same and got into none but went to Brown, because those are different tiers.

Northwestern University over Chicago any day. equal rep on street, less intense academics (thus higher gpa), and more fun/social undergraduate experience. tho it is harder to get into than Chicago, im sure that doesnt matter for u since ur prophetic counselor says ur a shoe-in at all of those schools lol

My sister went to went to Chicago. Its a great academic experience but as they say "Its where fun goes to die". As a senior at Stern I would say the school is on the down. I dont like the current Dean's academic changes. That being said a friend of mine at Wharton hates the culture at the undergraduate level. It really depends on where you fit, visit the schools and if you know someone at any of the schools try to overnight with them. Schools are starting to do less overnighting but I thinks its a much better way to learn about a school then just a visit.

I agree U of C is where all fun goes to die, and hard it does. Also, undergrad is ALL about fit. So many people call me crazy that I picked MIT over some of my acceptances, but it is all about what feels good and where you get the most money. Chances are you wont be a banker being that most people change their major nevermind job interest. Also, if you do want it you will get it no matter where you go. I wouldnt pick U Miami over any of those even if fit was an issue however if you like Boston College over Cornell because of fit, it will not hurt.

And that whole prophetic counsler is bullshit. NO where is guarenteed or likely apply everywhere. I applied to 20 undergrad schools. Shit my uncle teaches at Harvard and I did not consider myself a shoe in, and some of the schools on your list are just as selective as Harvard.

I didn't mean to give the impression that I think I'm going to get into any of those schools for sure, since I know taht no school school is a sure thing. Mainly the list was posted to give an idea of caliber (aka not schools slightly worse than HYPSW.

As far as University of Chicago versus Northwesten is it a pretty clear consenus that Northwestern is regarded as highly on Wall street as University of Chicago, but with generally less demanding academics

Yes

Why anyone would want to go to a school thats claim to fame is "Where fun comes to die" is beyond me and speaks volumes about the student population.
