Protege Partners - Anyone have info on the firm?

Fund of funds in NY. Anyone have a take on them? I did a search and a few topics came up, but they were a little old and I wondered if anyone knew something more up to date.

What kind of technicals (or other stuff) should I expect in an interview?
Before I answer that, I want to make sure you understand that working at a hedge FOF is not going to be the same as working at a hedge fund. There is one huge difference, which has an effect on the day to day work of an analyst/associate: Analysts at hedge funds analyze companies and invest in those they deem most attractive while analysts at hedge FOFs analyze other hedge funds and invest in those they deem most attractive.

In terms of technicals, I would be prepared to answer anything you might see in an IB interview: Walk me through the statements and their connections, pitch me a stock, explain DCF, If I change inventory how does that flow through to the statements.... If they expect you be able to evaluate other HFs, you should be able to understand what these PMs are telling you when they explain their books.

In addition to that, I would be prepared to discuss things in the context of the portfolio as a whole. Talk about things such as managing risk through hedging, the total exposure of the portfolio (net/gross), etc

Not sure what your background is, so rather than continuing to lecture you on something you may already know about... you can PM me if there's anything else you want to know.

I think these guys may be a hedge fund seeding organization so I am not sure what type of role a firm like this might offer. If my description is correct, you may help them with identifying talented people to seed or assist with portfolio monitoring and oversight (risk management). It would definitely offer an entre into hedge funds but I still believe that IB training is among the best available for a recent college grad. You will always have a chance to go back to a hedge fund following your analyst program.
