Pumpin' Iron

Okay so I am a student and I am huge into gymming and all that good stuff. There is so much time to gym and keep fit at college. When you get into the industry, where do you guys find the time to actually pump some iron if IBD hours basically mean the only thing you get time to pump is numbers into a DCF

When do you guys gym? Mornings or after work?

Always mornings, during the work day things change so much you'll never have a set schedule, and will miss out on a lot of seshes when you have to stay late and are too tired.

  • Make sure your gym is really convenient, you probably won't have time to go to a gym that's more than 10 min out of the way.
  • One way trips are best- bring work clothes to change into and make sure gym is on your way to work.
  • Get your schedule set and get good at the transitions. Taking things slow while changing, showering, etc might feel good in the moment, but you really don't have that time to relax. The set time for workouts is your paradise, but transitions are in the day's budget. Getting your schedule set into a routine is really the key to success here.
  • Find your balance of sleep to gym needs. If I'm going to get 1-3 hrs less sleep than normal, I still go to the gym because the loss of sleep won't be as bad as how shitty I'll feel skipping the gym. If I'm looking at a 4hr+ loss of sleep, no gym time is going to affect me so I just get the extra hour and a half of sleep.

You're really not going to have the same time for it as you did in school, sorry to say but where you are now is your prime- tons of time and growth is easy. First you lose time, then when you get more time in retirement or w/e you just can't grow. As your metabolism slows, though, you'll be transitioning to more cardio anyway. The first 27-32 years are getting big, after that you're just trying to maintain what you got.

I had some older workout buddies who bestowed this knowledge on me and it's served me well. Obviously YMMV.

Wow, your day sounds really packed, like basically zero time to switch off even for a second. I have never interned at a bank or anything like that before so excuse my naivety in my questions.

  • Do you have a gym at your office? I know some firms (Google, dell, etc..) provide gyms in the bottom floor of their offices.

  • When you say you forego 1-3 hrs less sleep than normal , what is your normal sleep pattern like? Are you getting IB.

We do have a gym, but I prefer the one I go to. It's nice not being surrounded by coworkers constantly. My last

Caffeine doesn't really keep me going in the long run but yeah, somewhere around 6hrs. I try to aim for 8 but when it's time for bed I always try to sneak a couple more things and suddenly it's late.

I could have more downtime, but I like going out and doing fun things instead.

I'm like you, I like going to the gym and remaining fit. However, you have to make decisions, and sometimes pair back the workout. Or learn shorter workouts, or find time to fit it in.

Most people like mornings because you can get stuck at work.

Just set your priorities. If working out is important, you will find time to do it. Just realize it doesn't pay the bills.
