Purpose from Asset Management

Hi everyone-- something I've been wondering for a while and considering if AM/investing is something to focus on trying to get into as a career path:

Investing is clearly a thoughtful and complicated profession to choose i.e. you won't get bored and it will stay interesting over time. However, how do people who work in investing feel about the larger purpose of investing? Other than active investing, VC, and PE, my understanding is that there is not really a large impact or externality from your job that hits at a larger purpose/impact. To put it crudely, the job is just making a sum of money get larger. Now I don't think its that extreme, but hopefully it gets the point across.

Has anyone out there at least considered or had thoughts about this dilemma? Thank you!
