Pursuing a PhD in other area (History of Art) and working in finance later?
Hello everyone,
I am studying for two degrees simultaneously: I am now graduating History of Art and I am on my fourth year at Faculty of Economics and Business, program: Analysis and Business Planning. I enrolled later at studying business because I found interest in economic aspects of society during my first studies of History of Art and during my studies at Faculty of Economics and Business I passed CFA level 1 because I was planning to work in financial advisory as soon I graduate in History of Art.
The thing is that I am now being offered an assistant position on one of the projects at Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in the area of History of Art with 4-year contract and paid PhD scholarship. Will the acceptance of this offer make me uncompetitive in later pursuing career in finance - because I would be 28 when I finish my PhD in History of Art and without finance related work experience (even though I plan to pass next two levels of CFA in that time)? And do you think the future possible employers will find this dispersion of my focus as a problem because I wasn't commited only to finance or would they consider it a positive characteristic because I would have a broader understanding of the culture and society as such?
Thanks in advance for any advices and sharing experiences!
it's unclear from your posting why you want to pursue a PhD in history of art, other than that it's free.
