PwC recruiting and title

Folks,

I'm currently in the market sourcing opportunities and work for one of the big fours in the advisory business. Background in risk management (I've had an opportunity to gain exposure across different areas - business, IT, audit and technology) - 10 years across consulting and industry with post-grad (MBA) in a quant field.

Had a discussion with two separate recruiters at PwC (both recruit for the assurance business) and in each conversation they have offered to present me for the "Manager" role in their areas (I'm currently one in my firm, and have unfortunately learn't my lesson on not understanding the titles and negotiating them at the very beginning). This, to me, appears to be a pretty disappointing experience with these folks, thus far. I haven't gotten a very clear response from either of them, regarding the hierarchical structure within the firm but my research indicates it goes from Associate, to Senior Associate, to Manager, to maybe a Senior Manager?, to a Director and then to a Partner/Principal.

Could anyone provide insights into PwC's structure. It would be nonsensical for me to make a lateral move to a competitor firm (that too from advisory to assurance, where even the money won't be a differentiator)? Also, out of curiosity - it seems more than a con-incidence that both recruiters would try to push me in for a "Manager" title that requires almost an entry level experience (3 years or over vs 8 years or over at a Director level). Would anyone know, from prior experience, whether this is more of PwC's way of low balling a potential candidate than a mere co-incidence?
