Q&A: Ex-German Consultant turned VC in China, Shanghai

I am leading a startup accelerator/VC (part of a Chinese innovation company) in China, Shanghai, since 2019.
Our focus areas are MedTech, EdTech, Smart Manufacturing, CleanTech - Seed/pre-series A mainly. Any startups interested in expanding to China - feel free to get in touch ;)

Prior to that I worked in strategy consulting across Europe for 3 years (based in Frankufrt, then Berlin).
Studied in Mannheim, founded a students startup intiative. On the side, I am rather active on social media, especially on YouTube (search for "Kevin Jon") and talking about management consulting, venture capital, China. It's a fun thing to do.

Any questions are welcome, including questions about China, the current situation here (virus) etc.

Cheers everyone!

Well first of all you a living legend, thanx for all the support you are giving to the young consulting community with you yt channel. Im interested in why you made the switch from consulting to vc instead of for example pe which wouldve also been a viable alternative I presume.

My internships paved the way into that direction: First internship was as a CEO assistant at a startup, another internship was at EPIC Companies/then Sevenventures - a company incubator before I took on a 3 month Global Venture Development role at Rocket Internet in Sydney. I always enjoyed working with young and dynamic startups a little bit more than with SMEs/corporates. Thus, VC fits me quite well. Not saying that cannot change in the future, but for now that's what it is.
