Qatalyst Partners Phone Interview
I have an interview for Qatalyst Partners next week. Two analysts will be interviewing me. Does anyone have any advice for how to prepare or what to expect? Would it be regular behavioral questions or intense technical questions, etc?
Very technical. Hit the guides.
Go beyond the guide. interviewers will know the guide answers so they may ask you further than what the guides explain. The best way is to really model out quick & dirty LBOs, merger models, DCFs etc that way you have a "real" understanding of how it pieces together.
when they interviewed me it kind of sounded like they were reading off a script... but yes very technical but they will dig so fucking deep on why tech
Any specific areas for technicals? Also any other important behaviorals besides why tech?
not really but why tech is so broad and if you don't know your shit you will get wrecked
also echoing wvu's question, what specific areas of technicals should i prepare for? for example, I think I got DCF, comps, precedent transactions questions down; LBO and Merger Models... not so much...
you will need to know those for sure.
any more advice on how qatalyst interview will go?
also, where would I be able to get tutorials on how to build merger models/LBOs? I've mostly been using guides but they don't have things like case studies or examples I could follow to actually see how the models work.
Look at Macabacus or ASimpleModel for step-by-step examples of creating financial models. Ask your career center or recent alumni who are in the industry if they can give you the TTS (Training the Street) or similar firms' models that they use in the training week for summer analysts.
Do you know what their recruiting timeline is like? Just curious. Hope the interview went well.
I believe they're still doing first/second rounds by phone and will have a superday in SF later on (Dec/Jan?)
Thanks, that sounds about right! I've interviewed with them two weeks ago and they said they weren't ready for a second phone call quite yet and would keep me posted and that I should let them know if I get any exploding offers. A little weird--hope that doesn't mean I got sacked. Also wouldn't tell me much about their timeline.
Same. Just had a phone interview. Very technical fersure

Anyone gone through their interviews? What was it like?
A friend of mine just had an interview with Q and told me that it was highly technical, i.e. PIK debt flowing through statements, merger models etc.
jeez, that sounds intense. did he get an invite back?

Has anyone ever interviewed at Qatalyst? (Originally Posted: 08/23/2012)
Don't see many threads or information specific to the interview. Anyone have any input?
Know a friend there. he told me technicals then had the very important "Why Tech" question. I don't know if you go to Cal, Stanford, or Penn but those are the three schools that they recruit at specifically.
A lot of fit questions
