quant question

Hey I am a college junior and I missed the chance to apply for an internship, so I am looking to get a master in financial math, and I was wondering what are the job prospects for that? my gpa is a 3.4 coming for a lib arts school where I major in art history and economics, but I have taken more than enough math classes.

If you're a college junior right now, you definitely haven't missed the chance to apply for summer internships for the upcoming summer. Most IB firms do their recruiting for summer analyst positions throughout January and February.

Can't help you out with your other question though, sorry Falcon

The problem I have is that I do not attend a target school and I havent been able to make a contact in a bank. I went to career services got a list of alumni and started talking to them, but as it is now I doubt I would be able to get an interview at the moment, so what I was thinking was I could go to a graduate program at a school with a better name such as Berkeley and then after I graduate work in IB.

Falcon, the fact that you don't come from a target school doesn't mean shit. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Work hard to find an internship somewhere, even if it is with a "boutique" bank. They provide great experience and can get you interviews with the top-tiers come your senior year. This is what I did and it ended up landing me a job at a top-tier bank (and I come from a non-target school). If you don't have contacts...make some! Call up banks' HR depts. and ask them to put you in contact with Analysts you can talk to about the IBD. Bottom line: show initiative! Believe it or not, lots of I-banks let their junior guys sort through the resumes to decide who gets an interview, and if you've taken the time to call them up, they will be (or at least should be) impressed. Just make sure you have done a lot of research beforehand and can sound intelligent on the phone. Graduate school I wouldn't recommend right away. Most respectable programs want you to have some experience first. It's better to take a job at a mid-market firm and fight your way into a bigger bank's IB. Best of luck my friend!
