Question about WSO in an interview
Guys, once in an interview at top MM for OCR, one of the analysts word-for-word asked me "do you read Wall Street Oasis for interview prep?" I wasn't sure exactly how to answer it so I basically said that yes I read WSO however I take everything with a grain of salt. Anyone else ever get asked about WSO in an interview?
No, never had that question in any interview. Most people I meet in finance don't have the time to hang out here.
But that would be a dream question for anyone actively using this website. Lots of stuff to talk about, how WSO gives guidance, peer network, etc
NB- You should have offered him a silver banana as a bribe.
That’s very strange if it was out of nowhere, but maybe your interview answers are very generic and WSO-like (people can be pretty weird here)
.
^ also you might wanna delete this thread since it seems like the interviewer might come on here from time to time...
I can definitely tell who reads the site when I hear WSO nomenclature. I work at an UMM firm. My MD and I were doing a double Zoom interview with a candidate last spring. We asked him where else he was interviewing. Kid said he was interviewing at a few of the “elite boutiques”. My MD laughs and asks “What the heck is an elite boutique? Are we elite?”. Kid crumbled and the whole thing was very cringe
When asked that question, did kids typically name specific firms? Or do they say something vague like “I’m in processes for some bulge bracket banks, middle market banks, and boutiques as well, but your firm is definitely one that I’m most excited about.”
