Question: Back office analyst to Consultant .... attempt to transfer internally or apply to a different firm?

I am currently working as a back office "business analyst" at one of the tech 3 companies for a little over a year (Accenture, Capgemini, IBM) , and looking to transition into a full time technology consulting role. My current day to day responsibilities include developing Excel models for finance, doing research on internal technology, and going to tons of meetings. I dont have any interactions with consultants directly.

1. Do you guys think I have a better shot transfer internally, or applying to a different firm all together?
2. Should I aim for firms in the same category (tech 3) or going for other groups (big 4, etc)?
