Question for the seasoned Management Consultants
Hello Monkeys,
The following is my Q:
I recently noticed a position for PwC Management Consulting in their advisory business. This raised the question of how PwC MC varied from S& Consulting - in terms of work. The following is what I understood:
PwC MC's work with S& Consultants to provide a more holistic service to their respective clients - S& identifies consulting solutions and PwC implements those very solutions. I wanted to know if this statement is correct.
Also, when we look at the MBB's, is it true that they primarily focus on identifying solutions and not really on implementing them (only playing the role of S& in the above scenario). And on the other hand, companies such as A&M focus less on identifying, and more om implementing solutions identified by the client. Or am I getting this entire thing wrong.
Never having worked in Management Consulting, its hard to understand the inner workings/positioning of the different companies - would love for someone in the industry to clarify the above.
It really depends on the type of firm you are at and where you are. As I know , now almost every major player does implementation projects because they are very lucrative and last for a long time. As for the suite of services different companies have to offer it varies. For example I work in advisory for Big 4 in Eastern Europe, and our office offers almost every type of consulting work as one legal entity, and brings in experts as needed, but a larger office in different country might have separate legal entities for consulting and for other services. This is done to avoid conflicts of interest when offering different services to the same client. So for PwC they have management consulting that offers a suite of technology, or implementation consulting services and they have S& that is more strategy consulting brand. This way they can pitch some kind of consulting work as PwC and also keep the brand of S& for other high-profile projects to avoid conflict of interest.
Thanks for getting back to me - this was useful. Would you have any knowledge on the following:-
How is recruitment for Management Consulting positions at the Big 4 (advisory) different from the other players, namely - MBB, OW, ATK etc. Do they follow a similar format of case interviews (market estimations etc), or are the case interviews different in nature.
