question from freshman with BB interview

I'm a freshman, and I recently received a call for an interview with a BB. For the interview, would they ask me technical questions? I haven't taken any 'real' finance and accounting courses, so I would think not, but can anyone clarify?

I've skimmed the vault guide for finance interview, and I don't mind cramming it, but if I don't need to know that, I would rather spend my time preparing for other parts of the interview.

thanks in advance!

What's the position you're interviewing for? Do you have some kind of in?

I didn't know most BB's took students that young for their SA programs.

Well... I had my CV forwarded around by people. I never actually applied to the bank. I just got a surprise call after the bank got my CV, and they drilled me with questions (market & brain teasers) for about 30 minutes. I somehow managed to answer all his questions. Then, the guy said he will get back to me on whether I will get an interview or not. A few hours later, I got an email from him telling me that HR would contact me for info on the interview.

It is for a SA IB job. But since I didn't apply there, I don't know what group. I also don't want to ask them and sound like an idiot.

Northwestern with 3.8 GPA. Also, I just found out for sure that I'm interviewing for tech.

If they don't ask technicals, would they just base my ib knowledge by asking me about the current market (ex. specifics on MS Yahoo M&A)?

Are you a CS or related (EE, CE, etc.) major? If so, I would verify that this is IB, tech group and not Technology (IT). Technology (IT) is more of a back-office role, similar to operations. As you are a freshman, it seems much more plausible that they are interviewing you for the IT role and not the IBD role.

If you disclose the firm, people might be better able to help you discern (if you are still unsure and unwilling to ask HR), as very few firms have a first round interview for a specific IB group (most will have a generalist interview and either accept you to a generalist program or have a specific group-selection process later).

The exception may be if you got the interview solely through a contact w/in that group, and you are under consideration only for this one group... although I'm unsure if this is how it works, as I've never been in this situation.
