Question working for an ex-consultant

All - haven't posted here in a while but need some advice from you all. I'm now working at a growth company, technology, 50-100 in size. My boss is an Ex-BIg 4 Consultant who went pretty fast up the ladder and is now in a leadership role (right under our CEO). I'm in a semi-technical role, managing a small team, reporting to him.

My boss just gave some tasks directly to one of my employees. Without speaking to me about it. Is this a good thing? Or is this a bad thing? I usually don't think too far into his actions - but this seemed odd to me. Not sure how to interpret and seeking your advice!
