Questions about MBA for trying to get into MBB consulting

I'm currently a data scientist at a Fortune 50 company with 3 years work experience making 90k + 15% bonus. I'm in a city with a pretty low cost of living (think Dallas, Phoenix, ATL, Charlotte). I went to an undergrad target right below the level of HYPS + Wharton (think Columbia, UChicago, UPenn non Wharton) and know a few of former classmates working at some MBB offices throughout the US.

How hard would it be to break into MBB consulting as an experienced hire (as opposed to the traditional MBA route)? Given my career goals, I would actually like to be a client facing data science consultant more so than a traditional management consultant. Would it be worth the cost of getting an M7 MBA in this case? I'm looking at lots of starting and even mid-career salaries, but can't help but think they're really inflated relative to my position since lots of those people work in high COLA areas like NYC or SF.
