Quit now = no buy side gig?

So, got an offer from a top buyside shop recently.

Since then, my BB analyst job has just become more and more of a slug. If I quit now will I still be able to keep the buyside job?

I'm sure hundreds of monkeys have wondered about this before...

I feel like someone would find out and maybe ding you. Wouldn't you rather just skate along for the remainder of your analyst gig, collect your paycheck, and keep your relationships intact?

People tend to think life is a race with other people. They don't realize that every moment they spend sprinting towards the finish line is a moment they lose permanently, and a moment closer to their death.

^^^ this. Plus, longer period of employment = better. Plus, longer period collecting a paycheck = better. How bad would it suck to stop going to work and find out your buy side gig fell through?

Your first approach shouldn't be to quit but rather to ask the buyside shop if there is a possibility that you could start early. That would be far more common.

I have seen a successful "obtain offer, quit the next day" approach though.

Get a contract and then get out. Don't do ANYTHING until you have a piece of paper in front of your eyes AND signed by both parties.

If you are in the London area I can recommend you some lawyers to go over the contract. Not that expensive as well 250 an hour, so if it's just a standard contract probably will take them 2 hours max.

I just went through the process and quit very recently

I don't understand why you would quit before even having guaranteed the buyside job??

Well, I've signed the letter of employment or w/e for buyside gig, but its "at will" employment, so obviously they could take it away for any reason. Just worried that they'll decide I'm not worth that much without the benefit of the extra yr of BB experience they were expecting
