Quitting as a junior/mid-level due to seniors/heads being remote for the foreseeable future??

Been remote ever since Feb20 now and it looks like all the seniors are content to be working from home.

As the only jr/mid-level guy on the team, I'm not learning as much (bored at home too) and it makes me angry when people on my level at competitors have been back in the office and learning a ton.

Any thoughts on this?

I can very much relate. It’s extremely hard especially when you might be working for multiple people at once and nobody feels responsible for teaching you. I definitely wouldn’t quit because of it but I do feel enticed to move onto another job sooner than later… partially due to lack of connection with the team.

Bottom line, I wouldn’t quit unless you have a better opportunity available.

Just curious: is your boredom/displeasure from lack of social connection in the office? Or is it from feeling like you have your work methods down pat and can get through them easily and are left just waiting for the next piece of work to come in? You mentioned not learning. Do you know of anyone you could reach out to that might be willing to let you ping ideas off of them for feedback from time to time? Even goofy stuff like analysing the best potential fantasy football line-up for the weekend (sounds like a good topic for a certain off-topic forum around these parts...). Also, what about picking up studying for something like a CFA/CFP/(insert random FINRA license here)/etc to tag on the resume for when it does come time to make a move? Or just additional self education in general in your idle times.

I agree with the above to not throw in the towel yet. Devil's advocate: just remember there's a LOT of people out there who would kill to have your "problem" right now. So do please try and think of the positives too.

Your concern is totally legitimate. You said it, WFH is limiting your learning and your growth. Obviously don't quit until you have an alternative, but that in itself is a totally legitimate reason to seek a different seat.

Also TBH, pretty negligent of the senior people at your fund to not think about repercussions of this WFH policy.
