QUITTING MY INTERNSHIP - How Damaging Is It?

Alright, guys, I really need your advice here, so please hear me out.

I'm on my 3rd week in my boutique HF summer internship when an SA offer from a top AM firm (think BlackRock, Fidelity) came along. My guess is that somebody reneged and I was next on their list.

I really want to take the offer, but I'm worried that I'll lose both internships if the top AM finds out I am already on an internship (they didn't ask).

What'd you guys do in my situation?

Well, it's a virtual internship, so I am already working from home. That being said, I could probably bullshit my way out if I really want to.

I guess another good question would be whether to be honest or go with some bullshit story. On one hand, I feel like my current firm should be able to understand my decision (e.g. some no name boutique vs BlackRock/Fidelity). On the other hand, there is a slight possibility that my manager will be very pissed and rat me out to the AM firm.

just say you decided to pursue other opportunities in the summer but really appreciate ur time here etc etc

make sure to give 1-2 weeks notice tho

been in more or less the same shoes as u, although I was on pretty chill terms with my manager so all is well. transparency is key

It's a boutique so it's not a structured programme. The fact that it is WFH makes it easier too.

lmao no do not tell your current internship the truth haha. absolutely not. it’s not like leaving a FT job where you have to provide notice and whatnot. I would try to do both if you can tbh, but if that’s too far fetched then yeah it’s easy enough to say you have to stop for some family reasons. idk what a boutique HF is but if it’s a couple hundred mil+ in AUM it doesn’t sound like a bad opportunity. what do interns even actually do is the real question and are they going to really miss you.
