Rank these universities for BSc International Business

I’m hoping to go into management consulting in Europe and I have a choice from these schools, how would you rank them for consulting in London?

  • Rotterdam School of Management

  • Maastricht University

  • Trinity College Dublin

  • University College Dublin

In all honesty if your end goal is MBB or similar in London I would avoid studying business at one of these universities and ideally study literally any subject at a traditional UK target (Oxbridge, LSE, UCL, Warwick, etc). It will make your life significantly easier as unfortunately a classics graduate from Oxford still has an infinitely higher chance of getting to London MBB than a business grad from UCD..  *Note* This changes somewhat when it comes to masters degrees however I am assuming this post is referring to UG.

If you are set on studying business in one of these schools I would vote in this order:

Rotterdam: Strongest business school in the Benelux - It probably has stronger placement in finance than consulting but I would still put it in the semi-target category along with the other top european business schools.

Trinity: Elite and prestigious school that is widely seen as the best university in Ireland however it is probably a semi target for consulting these days in the City as its rankings and placement has fallen over time. MBB and some T2 do recruit here however the majority of students that get in will be in quantitative courses like Maths or Trinity's MSISS course. Worth noting that if you are considering the BESS course in Trinity you will have the option to major in both business and economics which would look better to London recruiters than the B.B.S.

UCD: Very close second to Trinity in terms of placement however again the few students that will make it to London MBB/T2 will be from the more quantitative courses such as STEM degrees or Economics & Finance. I also should note that both UCD and Trinity do place excellently in Dublin and therefore B4 or Accenture consulting there would be doable with very minimal effort.

Maastricht: Don't have a huge opinion here but generally speaking it is seen as a tier below RSM for finance, meaning it would be in a similar if not worse situation for MBB/T2.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but a bit curious with what you said about masters degrees.
How would your vote change for masters program (say, in finance or management) for the universities?

That was more in reference to my advice to 'study literally any subject at a target school'. For masters programs, this differs slightly because while non-business masters at oxbridge etc still place quite well, management masters at a target school such as LBS's MiM would provide a significant advantage. The differs to undergrad in that studying business provides no such advantage.

Regarding these four schools my ranking would stay quite similar however UCD and Trinity swap places. UCD's Smurfit Graduate Business School (different to the Quinn School of Business at UG) is more established than Trinity's business school and offers the option to do the CEMS course in International Management which opens a lot of doors in consulting.

Aside from these schools, my masters recommendations for London consulting would be as follows:

LBS MiM/MiF

HEC MiM/MiF

Imperial MiM/MiF

LSE MiM/MiF

Oxbridge (Other MSc's or Cambridge's MPhil in Management)

Other European CEMS MiMs
