From my personal experience of living in Murray hill, uws, ues, nomad/gramercy, and like the nyu/soho/Chinatown area, I can say all 5 of those were solid places to live. Definitely depends on what you are looking for more specifically as all have their pros and cons relatively but overall all were solid spots in manhattan.

I don’t know if I ever lived in midtown per se as a neighborhood of residence so can’t speak too much to the difference. I’m currently living on the west side of manhattan but the east side is good too. Not too much of a difference at a high level in my humble opinion

Second the West Village as #1, was lucky enough to find an affordable spot there and felt "different" than the rest of Manhattan. Was quiet in the morning, had a lovely neighborhood vibe, and some of my favorite food spots in the city (I'Sodi, 4 Charles, and Bleeker St Pizza to name a few).

LES is also pretty decent from what I heard (GF lived off Houston near Clinton Baking), and had a TJ's a couple blocks away for groceries.

Working in MidTown is fine but I wouldn't want to live there personally. Chelsea would probably round out the top 3, good spots for the weekend, and easy access to touristy spots for when friends/family visit (i.e. Chelsea Market, High Line, Hudson Yards, etc).

There's absolutely ZERO subway service though.  Did they finally open the Ave. A entrance to the L?  I like the area, but think it would be miserable to commute from though.  Where are you going to go uptown/downtown? Astor Place?

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

West Village is far better than East Village if you have money

Miami, because New York can suck it. Enjoy your taxes, dying small business scene, shitty liberal protestors/looters, and awful infrastructure. I'll gladly keep my beachfront property for a comparable price point, superior nightlife, hotter women, and my money thanks.

superior nightlife, hotter women

You should have stopped with more reasonable COL and beachfront, you had a reasonable point there.

Yeah see, you just have no idea what the heck you're talking about. A Miami 7/8 is a NYC 9/10. The really gorgeous women want to be out on boats with ripped rich guys not office-locked pale fuckbois. We also have 24/7 nightclubs and none of your retarded vaccine requirements so it's not even remotely close.
