Or, to make it easy for you...this is not my knowledge, someone else said this:

Strengths - Great culture (always dress down unless you have meetings), supportive colleagues (probably the exact opposite to the Salomon guys), great opportunities for advancement (if you're good enough) and generally whomever I've interacted with that works there speaks very highly of them.

Weaknesses - Almost no name recognition, parent is ultimately a British commercial bank (reluctant to fork out anything even approaching BB-level salaries) and you may find it hard to move to a top-tier after working for them.

Future - The street places RBSGC in the same bracket as HSBC, ABN, Dresdner etc...i.e. not much of a glittering future.

..If you are a trader/risk taker it is the best firm on the street to work for IMO (although I am biased!). The culture is the number 1 draw...no corporate BS, casual dress, and people who are great. People who are assholes, or who go around stabbing people in the back, generally do not last at GCM. Also, producers (either good traders or salespeople) are generally given the opportunity to make alot of money/take alot of risk. I cant speak to the banking side of the business as I never see them around and they sit in a different part of the building...i think the real estate finance group is solid but not sure.
