RE 3rd year junior salary negotiation
Hi all,
I have recently received an offer from a RE asset management based in Asia. AUM and track record is pretty solid, the fund is quite active across the globe (not a tier-1 names like KKR, BX, etc.)
I have not yet negotiated salary with the firm but what fair range should I be expecting?
I am currently a 3rd year junior at BB, with $100k base + $15-20 bonus. A friend of mine in familiar with RE industry told me that RE jobs tend to pay lower than M&A/ER/S&T jobs but better hours.
Should I really expect something like 20% cut in base salary?
Why leave for lower pay? Find a capital market job that can match your pay at large financial institutions
You don't need to take a 20% cut assuming the group is somewhat active and don't run a shop with a ton of overhead IMO. You should be able to get in the ballpark of what you currently are getting at BB, and cut your hours in half.
Are you in banking currently?
I am in equity research, not M&A/IBD. So my previous skill sets are not directly transferable (no deal experience, ER modeling mostly focused on quarterly IS, etc). In this case, would you say I should expect 10-20% cut in base salary?
Join a large shop, you can get paid $$$. Carlyle, tishman, greystar, etc will pay you decently...
