RE IM to RE PE

Hi,

I just got a return offer from one of the top RE IM firms by AUM size for a Investment Analyst position in Portfolio Management team (Core, Open-ended)

I am generally satisfied with my salary and the team (Though I am in the portfolio team, we have small regional team which allows me to be involved deeply into acquisition process) but am unsure of future exit opps that I can have.

I want to eventually be a part of value-add or opportunistic fund of REPE after 2+ years but I am unsure whether a core experience would be relevant for recruiting. I know that starting at buy-side is not really common background for REPE acquisition team and most of the guys in top REPE have background in IB.

I previously have experience in REIB (but actually a brokerage house) and REIM (The firm I got a return offer from) but am unsure whether I have to withdraw my offer and apply for another round of IB summer internship and eventually move to buy-side after then. I don't have any people who are working in RE so I really have no idea what I should do.

Do you guys think moving from core fund to opp. fund is common and possible?
