Reaching out to MD= Kiss of Death?
Hi all. Just wanted to get your honest opinion. I submitted my resume materials to an IB job two weeks ago and have not heard back. Since submitting them, I have connected with a few analysts at the company and the person who previously held the position, just to get a feel for the interview process and how to set myself apart. But as we go on into the third week of not hearing back(and being fully aware of Covid and the employment crisis nationally) I grow more nervous nothing will come of this great opportunity. It's for Public Finance, and I have experience with muni trading and EMMA.
I was wondering if it would be worth it or foolish to reach out to one of the MDs on LinkedIn and communicate my interest? Another consideration I had was asking one of the analysts I've connected with to review my resume and possibly offer a referral(our relationship has been cordial but is just days old). What would you do?
It's not worth it. Networking is always supposed to come before you apply especially when you reach out to MDs. Not saying the result will be 100% bad but there is a decent chance that if they do look at your resume they will tell you know. Better to ask the analysts for help.
