Is it best to apply as soon as possible or wait until I've networked a decent amount?

Hi,

I'm a rising sophomore at a non-target and plan on applying to a couple BB Soph SA 2018 programs. Apps have already opened up, but I have 0 contacts at most of the banks. That being said, would it be a better idea to apply now then reach out, or the opposite?

Not sure if apps are reviewed on a rolling basis or not though, that would make me lean more towards applying right now.

Apps are on a rolling basis and as a sophomore you're already at a disadvantage if you arn't diversity/top-candidate. Unless you are diversity, it'll be really hard to get a BB sophomore gig, especially since networking technically started at the end of fall and goes throughout summer. If I were you I'd also network with regional boutiques, MMs because as a non-target you are more likely to gain traction. Apply to BBs right now too. Good luck!

You are thinking about this in a way that is not ideal.

The correct answer is that there is no right answer.

Or to give you a more meaningful correct answer, the correct answer is when the combined influence of the people who are willing to vouch for you is enoug to make them prefer you over the other candidates (going into the interview at least). Depending on the organization this can range from most of the team knowing you to having an enthusiastic Associate supporting your application.
