Real Estate Capital Markets Question

Currently looking to figure out comp/responsibilities for a CM analyst in a secondary market that specializes in Multi-family.

Also how is RE CM viewed relative to Real Estate Finance/what are exit opps within RE CM.

Best Response

Comp varies widely by firm/volume. You could make $50-60K including bonus or $100K+. Eastdil and HFF generally have the best comp structure for analysts but require the most hours and workload.

Exit opps vary from middle-market development to diversified institutional PE - all depends on firm and experience gained. I would suggest trying to get exposure to as many property types as possible and work on institutional transactions ($25mm+ or so). Also getting exposure to both debt/structured finance and investment sales is big plus for exit opps.
