Really Bad at Interviews
I've had all these superdays within the last year and can't seem to close on an offer. I have no problem networking and getting my way into a formal interview. But can't close. I have every interview guide and resource and have studied it. But suck at interviews either fit or tech, I keep getting dinged. Any advice on other than memorizing the guides front to back?
I even offered to give my interviews blowjobs at the end of the interview to stand out, what am I doing wrong?
Hey thats me!!!!!
What the...
Bad interviewer? (Originally Posted: 12/21/2009)
I don't exactly stutter, but tend to repeat certain words when I speak to someone (normally, not just interviews)
I have eliminated nearly all the um's uhs and such but still do this
I can't seem to get rid of that, any suggestions? Should I speak more slowly (won't this bore the interviewer?)
Also, I just noticed that I slightly spelled a word wrong on my resume, spellcheck didn't catch it cuz its all CAPS I got the interview anyway, do you think its gonna hurt if they find it during the interview?
No - you can always bring a copy of the resume to the interview and tell them to use that but then they'll probably ask you what changed and you'll just draw attention to the spelling mistake so probably just ignore it
Is this a serious comment. Seriously, just slow down and don't say dumb things. Long pauses only seem long to you. the best strategy is to get the interviewer talking and make them think you are really interested by asking good questions. Most interviewers are suckers for this trick.
Honestly, slow down. Also, THINK before you speak. I too had the same problem but I learned to outline what I was going to say before speaking about anything in an interview.
Think for 15 seconds after his questions and you will get a better grasp of what you are talking about instead of just rambling on some random stuff.
outlined thoughts are good idea too.
I agree with the outline of thoughts. Also, you always speak faster than you think, so slow it down - plus speaking slowly conveys confidence (of course speaking 5 words/min makes you sound retarded, find a good speed) ask a close friend to run you through a mock interview.
Like monkeybandit said, get the interviewer talking. Ask questions about him/her and his/her work experience. Everyone loves talking about themself so get them talking (ie ask thoughtful and open-ended questions).
My interviewer for the boutique I'm working at was quite bad as well but I started to talk about him and asking good questions about his work. Don't ask stupid generic stuff like "so what's your day like" but meaningful questions and that got him to open up a lot. You can direct the interview too as an interviewee, remember that.
