Really don’t know what to do and need advice
Hi everyone,
Recently started a role at a major institution doing risk management in credit and am realizing that this role really won’t be helping me develop any transferable skills and I am slowly losing interest in anything I’m learning. I am the type of person that wants to be challenged and grow and move up but everyone on my team seems to have gotten stuck in the mud. I am essentially in the middle to back office and was very close to landing a front office role but was getting beaten in final rounds. Thought this position would be somewhat applicable but it’s turning out it’s not really anything special. At this point I am just in training periods but feel like I should just leave and keep recruiting. My current pay is nice for the low col area I live in but I do know deep down inside that I will hit a wall and not see my salary grow as much in the future due to the skills I am developing. More background: I have a masters in finance from a well known and historic finance school. Anybody have any advice for me?
1) chill out, ur fine. ur employed, have healthcare, and getting a check. ur young, don't have a SO, and don't have kids to support. so ur good
2) dust of the resume and linkedin. Open up LinkedIn for recruiting.
3) start networking. What r u interested in? start talking to people u know, and start reaching out to people on LinkedIn
Really just looking either to get more hands on with actual modeling for credit and or credit in general.
start networking and applying to jobs that have that
Figure out what exactly you want to do and start networking with people in that business line while also reading up and getting smart on that business line (news articles, youtube videos, etc.). The more you know about it, the more you can intellectually talk about it when networking. These two efforts go hand-in-hand. Hiring is really starting to pick up so stay calm, focus on your objective, and keep at it.
Nice suggestion. Any tips for finding out exactly what you want to do? I mean, today I had a call with a recruiter for a real estate opportunity but I never had much experience with it, sounded interesting though. I could say the same about hedge funds, etc
