Received Financial Services Internship after freshman year
I just received a financial services internship from a financial advising company and I'm wondering whether or not I should continue looking for something else. I just finished up my freshman year at a target school but decided to go back home for the summer because I saw it as my last chance to hangout with my high school friends and family (I live in the PNW) if I want to go into banking. The internship program is very educational; all I will do is attend weekly intern class/conference calls that cover a different financial concept each week of the program, complemented by homework assignments that reinforce the material. Each week there is a new topic (time value of money, mutual funds, bond market, stock market, retirement plans etc). It's also nice because I only have to show up to the office one time a week so I can still enjoy my summer.
The problem I see with it is that its not related to banking, PE, or VC at all and the firm is not well known. Therefore, I'm wondering if I should look for something else that is perhaps, more banking related? Keep in mind, I do not live in a big market where there are banks everywhere. There may be a total of 10 boutiques in the city, some of which I already talked to.
So you would rather hang out with friends from high school than make money and set yourself up to get a good job in the future? Makes total sense to me dude
Let me clear this up. I will also work another job if I take this internship. I already have other jobs lined up. I'm not just fucking around 6/7 days of the week. I just want to make sure that this internship puts me in good position to get a better internship (banking), in the future.
I'm also interviewing for a capital markets internship at a real estate investing firm later today, but I'm not getting terribly optimistic about that opportunity quite yet.
