Recent Grads - Do we still have jobs??
Hi everyone I hope you've all been staying healthy and safe with your families. I'm a recent college grad and just accepted a full time position that's supposed to start mid-summer. The company I will be working for is definitely impacted by recent economic events, and I'm super worried I won't have a position come the start date. For a little context but to not give away the company, it's a large player in the secondary mortgage market. Anyone else in the industry nervous about job security?
Lost mine, anything is possible
Oh man that's horrible news I'm sorry!! Did HR reach out to you with any options? Like the possibility to get your job back once this all blows over?
What do (did) you do?
Analyst role at a pere top 50
in a similar boat right now with smaller shop that is pretty flexible - they just told me my spot is fine but we might have to rework my start date and have a reduced salary into the fall
so shitty hearing about people just getting their offers pulled out of the blue
Oh well that's kinda good news! I agree it's really unfortunate seeing people's offers being swiped out from under their feet. I'm just nervous because I've contacted my recruiter twice in the past 3 weeks regarding my position with no response so I'm starting to sweat.
Congrats on your position though and I wish you the best of luck!
Try contacting someone else at the company. Maybe the recruiter got laid off for all you know
That's great. At least they are being transparent about it.
I am in a similar boat, and the firm hasn't really committed yet. I tried to email the manager a few times, but I am not getting responses.
I don't have a good feeling about this
Did you reach out and ask them? If so, what did you say? I am supposed to be joining the acquisitions team of a smallish developer in late June. I am thinking about reaching out to my manager. Should I wait it out or be proactive in determining the soundness of my position?
I'm in a kinda similar boat, small shop and start date is pushed back, but right now there is no definitive new date, they need to get their funding moving again before they can start on anything new and afford to pay a new hire.
I am hearing of 30 to 60% pay cuts.
It's going to be a terrible few months ahead.
Just got word today, from a major brokerage, that my start date was moved back 3 months. Assuming this is all over by the end of summer many of these firms will need to hire back considering the amount of maturing debt that needs to be refinanced over that period and the sudden opportunity to acquire assets at a discount (leading to acquisition loans). Stay positive.
I have a full time offer at a firm that got hit hard. Meanwhile I also have a grad school offer (top 10 MFE) but have to make a decision soon. Should I go for the grad school before they fire me?
