Recruiting Advice for Next Year
Basically I'm going into recruiting next year at a target with what I expect to be a reasonably high GPA, the only thing is I don't have any finance experience (besides courses at school, messing around with my own account). In fact, I think I'd have a pretty difficult time filling out a resume.
So far this is what comes to mind:
Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl Debate Team
Worked as an assistant helping team members develop arguments and master their cases in preparation for the national competition (which they won)
E-Portfolio Evaluator
Evaluated student e-portfolios to judge whether or not the ethical judgment competency (graduation requirement at school) was adequately fulfilled.
The Fountainhead Essay Contest Semifinalist (like top 250 of 5000 or something, and I got paid)
Intern on a political campaign (American Dream-style business man Moderate Republican who ended up losing to a self-proclaimed socialist, but its Vermont, go figure)
The first two of these occurred at the non-target that I just transferred out of, so I'm a bit hesitant about listing them. Also, my GPA starts over this fall, so its really make or break, if I bust my ass I can have a 4.0 and walk into recruiting with some confidence (although it doesn't seem like I have other credentials to back it up).
I'm also planning on pitching some stocks to our schools investment fund, so hopefully that will be successful.
Also, would it be worthwhile to mention published poetry or short stories on a resume even though it has nothing to do with finance? This is an ancillary interest of mine, and I plan on submitting to student lit mags at my new school.
Besides mastering excel what can I learn to improve myself as a candidate both in reality and on paper?
