Recruiting East Coast PE from full time in the West Coast

Hey - I will be at a West Coast bank next year for full time and wanted to know if there was any chance of recruiting into a PE role in NY during on cycle when recruiting hits next year. Thanks in advance.

Not a chance during on-cycle, even if you're the strongest candidate on the west coast. This is all just due to how early the process has been and probably will continue to be.

The process was so early that this year that most headhunters were caught off-guard and could not accommodate bi-coastal candidates.

Off-cycle is probably a different story.

“Impossible” is too strong of a word - I know kids who have done it in the past couple years (mostly from Moelis LA/GS (LA and SF)/MS (LA and SF). But you have to fly redeye the night before interviews. There is also no feasible way to do both west coast and east coast on cycle, so most candidates stay west coast given the number of strong PE firms out there.

Very easy to recruit from NY to the west coast, because all the big places will send full interview teams to NYC.

Yeah fair actually. Just kind of weird to fly all the way to NYC to interview with LGP or TPG - you have a bit of an advantage with those places if you’re local i think
