Regards v Best in emails?
Which is better in professional email communications?
I think Best is too familiar but regards a tad cold?
And is 'noted' basically a polite way to say stfu?

I find that a lot use best.
Either is fine.
All the best, Best Regards,
etc.. are all pretty much the same.
I'm naturally very casual in my workplace emails (even to Partners, MDs, etc.) and have never had an issue. To be honest, compared to some of the sycophantic, overly unctuous drivel they frequently receive from other Analysts / Associates, I think they appreciate a more friendly (albeit still polite) approach - as mentioned, have never had any negative feedback about it and often receive very cordial emails in return. I opt for "kind regards."
Best, Goldie
Regards, Menards
Thanks, Spanx
Best
Cheers,
I use sincerely, thank you, warm regards, best regards.
Order is from most human like response to least human like response.
Ta. if you're in the UK

Thx.
The shorter the line, the bigger your d*ck. It's proven by science.
Ta? you sign the email Ta, Aaron in the UK?
I've seen 1 or 2 old school partners do it this way. Best was when it was already their auto-sig for replies.
I once received the below reply for sending one of them edits on slides, he forgot about the auto-sig and wrote out ta again. Twice.
"Thx.
Ta
TA
Ta.

Stay dangerous, SYB
Tier 1 (oh good, I'm communicating with a normal person): Best, / Thanks, / Regards, Tier 2 (a bit formal, but whatever): Best regards, / Sincerely, / Warm regards, Tier 3 (this is weird and/or you probably don't speak my language fluently): Very truly yours, / My deepest thanks, Tier 4 (I hate you): Cheers,
This is it
Ahaha I would add ' Rgds ' to tier4
Tier 5: Ciao,
Ciao is Tier S
.
I hate Walmart.
I used Very Respectfully when I was active duty and I still use it now. Might be a bit formal but I don’t care because I don’t think anybody actually pays attention to the salutation on an email.
I normally use "Best," and "Best Regards," though I will throw in a "Thanks," or if I'm really feeling like a BSD just a lol. Nah in all seriousness, I seriously don't think anyone in industry has the time or energy to pick a bone with just about all of the aforementioned sign offs... tho some may be a little odd. just stick to the common ones and you can't go wrong.
I prefer to use and receive a simple "Thanks,"
One person here (ops group) signs off "Thanks so much," and I absolutely hate that.
We once got a typo from a broker that said "King Regards," and we all started using that for a while, might have to bring that one back.
Not sure why this is a post... If you write a compelling email (where you likely sound human), who cares?
The End
I either put nothing or my first name
End every email with
Love you,
First Name Last Name
If it is someone I have never emailed before I usually start with "Kind regards." If there is a lot of back and forth I usually just shorten it to "Best" which I consider somewhat informal and not appropriate for first contact or just "Regards" as a formality.
If I really appreciate what someone has done for me I usually throw in a "Warm regards" or "Many thanks."
I think this something that builds naturally over time and you develop a professional email voice. Before university I used to stress over every aspect of an email including the sign off. After hundreds upon hundreds of emails with professors and then job recruiters and now at work (and still with recruiters/hiring managers) I just review for the typos.
It is also different in some cultures, I never worked with FIs down there but apparently in Curacao they are very formal. Opening emails with "Most esteemed ______." That's anecdote someone gave me, so I would be interested if anyone else had that experience.
Some of you all would be surprised but random stuff like this can matter. I had a teacher in hs who would refuse to answer emails that started with the greeting:
Dear [insert said teachers name],
I’ll be sure to keep this in mind the next time I email your third grade English teacher
-
Stay classy,
This is part of the reason I've started to hate email. Inflection is entirely lost. I have one boss who will write back 'noted' and that means effectively "thanks, i'll be sure to bring this up in XX meeting" and another that it basically means " you are a fucking gutter slug - I want to pour salt on you".
Regardless, they all are generally fine.
"Best," Is for 25 year old white females.
Why not... Both? Email sign-off equivalent of a mullet: business up front, party in the back
email sign offs really need to die. i can't end every single email i type with a different variant of "thanks" and leaving "thank you" in your generic signature makes you look tacky. slowly trying to get away with not saying anything unless it's a more formal email where "thank you" is appropriate.
Unless I know someone personally, I do not use regards. I usually use -all the best - or - thank you, or - thanks.
I'm trying something new. I used to say regards or some canned bullshit, but recently I've tried making the last line of my email just the signature, like wishing someone a good week, good luck with some upcoming thing they're doing, or saying thank you. feels much more natural than "regards"
we'll see if it sticks, if not, I've got some others I can try out
Epstein Didn't Kill Himself,
A Hot Dog is Not A Sandwich,
Skip Bayless is A Twat,
Legalize It,
CHECK (for all of you Jocko fans)
Adieu, s
Best Regards - normal
Thanks - you better do what I said in the email
Kindest Regards - fuck you and all of your stupid shit
Sincerely - similar to Thanks
Warmest Regards - you told me not to do it but I did it anyway
Respectfully - I don’t agree with you and did something different
Very Respectfully - when communicating with top military brass (O6+)
Yours truly - I have constructed an elaborate scheme to fuck you and the wheels are in motion - you can’t drop it now
Cheers - Always good natured
Ciao - You’re fucked, that’s it - goodbye
Namaste - I don’t use this, but generally think the person does yoga if they say this
GG - you tried to play me and lost - nice try (good game)
Vaya con Dios - This looks like some unethical shit and I’m not on board (walk with God)
Neither
When i was an analyst i always did "Best,"
Now i just do "//name"
It's much faster when respondign to emails on phone
I ways end my letters/emails with
Cordially,
Nick
Thoughts?
Imagine caring about this
Imagine not caring about this - sounds like a lack of attention to detail.
Bruh we know your attention to detail is second to none while you distinguish between 17 & 18 year olds to pick up 😭
